This chapter gives an account of the sons of David, born to him both in Hebron and in Jerusalem, #1Ch 3:1-9, and of his successors in the kingdom, to the Babylonish captivity, #1Ch 3:10-16, and of his family, to the coming of the Messiah, #1Ch 3:17-24. (Gill)

Vv. 1-4, six sons from six different wives.

Vv. 5-9, nine more sons mentioned, plus Tamar, who was raped by her half-brother, Amnon. David also had concubines, but their sons are not listed.

The list of fathers/sons is quite long. We need to know who our father is, and when we were born again into His family.
